“If you think Frank Lampard’s team should finish in the top four and win a cup, you’ve been misled”: fans point out Chelsea boss has exceeded Jamie Redknapp’s expectations this season because of early prediction reappears
- Chelsea fans have praised Frank Lampard’s performance at the club this season

- The Blues are third with one game to go and have booked an FA Cup final place
Chelsea fans have praised manager Frank Lampard for setting the club on track for a successful season despite a bleak forecast last summer.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp predicted the Blues would miss a spot on the top four and lose silverware after losing their star-shaped Eden Hazard to Real Madrid before being placed under a transfer embargo by FIFA.
Lampard replaced Maurizio Sarri with a daunting task and was forced to play with youngsters without signing in, but with one match remaining they are in third place and have made a spot in the FA Cup final against Arsenal.

Jamie Redknapp said expectations for the Chelsea season should be much lower last summer
At the start of the season, Redknapp told Sky Sports that expectations for Chelsea’s campaign had to be much lower with the obstacles they faced at the time.
“Of course Lampard should be treated differently because Chelsea lost their superstar,” he said. Hazard was the only player who produced a piece of magic to score or score a goal.
“And if you think Lampard should finish in the top four and win a cup, you’ve been deceived. It is completely wrong, you cannot have that expectation.

“This manager needs time, he is going to give young players a chance and if he finishes in the top four, that is an incredible achievement with this team.”
The Blues now seem ready to take on that incredible feat, as well as the chance to pick up a trophy on August 1, and fans have responded to the early season prediction and thought about the work their manager has done.
A supporter said on Twitter: ‘It’s true! Jamie Redknapp is absolutely perfect. Anyone who predicted Chelsea would have been misled! It just shows what a fantastic job Frank Lampard has done. Chelsea fans, be excited! ‘
Lampard gave opportunities to young people like Mason Mount on the left after their transfer embargo
Another wrote, “The work Lampard has done this season is nothing short of incredible.”
“It’s amazing how we’re only a few games away from a possible reality.” said a fan.
Lampard has received high praise for his work in using the squad, despite not being able to make a marquee at the start of the season. Starlets like Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Callum-Hudson-Odoi and Reece James have all been called up to join the team.
Chelsea defeated Man United in the semi-finals of the FA Cup and have a chance of winning on August 1
While Mount shone particularly brightly, the former Derby boss has managed to pull gigs out of the inexperienced star and Abraham has scored 17 goals along the way to keep the top four in sight.
They remain in the Champions League, but face a mountainous task of passing Bayern Munich in the August knockouts after a 3-0 defeat in the first leg.
But silverware is something the club is constantly craving for and Lampard has a chance to achieve it when they face the Gunners at Wembley Stadium. Lampard has also traveled a tough route – Champions Liverpool, Leicester City and Manchester United conquered the semifinals.
