Chelsea fans have stepped forward this morning after the Government gave the go-ahead for the £4.25bn acquisition of Todd Boehly.

After months of certainty at Stamford Bridge, the cloud hanging over the club appears to be finally lifting with Roman Abramovich cleared to sell.

And blues fans expressed delight at the government’s green light, while some couldn’t resist throwing a comment at their London rivals.

One fan wrote on Twitter: ‘What fantastic news to wake up too. Let the Boehly era begin. He has some very big shoes to fill at #CFC.’

Another added: ‘The Abramovich era is over. Today is a good day’, while another follower said: ‘We are back baby’.

Some Chelsea fans were relieved to hear the positive news, which came after the Premier League approved the takeover on Tuesday night, with one writing: ‘Finally the drama is over. Sad to see Roman go under circumstances beyond his control.

While another expressed the importance of maintaining success under new ownership, saying: ‘And finally it’s all done. Good luck to Boehly.

“The last 19 years have set the bar very high for any owner. We’ve won it all and we’ve done it our crazy way and we need to uphold those standards.

With Chelsea’s future hanging in the balance, some Arsenal fans were hoping they would be given their place in the Champions League after missing out on the top four.

Blues fans have scoffed at Gunners supporters following the government’s go-ahead for their takeover. One said: “Arsenal fans in tears because their made up story didn’t work”, while another said fans of the north London club would be “in tears”.

Another Chelsea supporter wrote on Twitter: “Does that mean Arsenal won’t be in the Champions League through the back door? can challenge the European elites.

A government statement on Wednesday read: “Late Last night the UK government reached a position where we could issue a license allowing the sale of Chelsea Football Club.

“Following the suspension of Roman Abramovich, the Government has worked hard to ensure that Chelsea Football Club can continue to play football. But it has always been clear to us that the long-term future of the club could only be secured with a new owner.

“After extensive work, we are now satisfied that the full proceeds of the sale will not benefit Roman Abramovich or any other sanctioned person. We will now begin the process of ensuring that the proceeds from the sale are used for humanitarian causes in Ukraine, supporting the victims of the war.

US tycoon Boehly will become the majority owner of Chelsea once the acquisition is complete, although California investment firm Clearlake Capital will take the majority of the shares.

The Boehly consortium completing the acquisition will end a 12-week saga that began when Abramovich officially put the Blues up for sale on March 2.

Abramovich was then sanctioned by the UK government on March 10, with Downing Street claiming to have proven his links to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Chelsea was placed under a strict government operating license, with all of Abramovich’s other UK assets frozen.

The sanctions meant that Chelsea were unable to conduct any transfer business, either with existing players or outside targets. has been reported by The Telegraph that Boehly will put up to £200m at Tuchel’s disposal this summer in a bid to rebuild his squad, having lost defenders such as Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers.
