Chelsea fans have slammed Mason Mount after comparing his quiet farewell post to Thiago Silva’s emotional message to his supporters.

Silva broke down in tears as she spoke of her “indescribable love” for the pup she originally only planned to represent for a year when she signed.

By contrast, Mount, who spent 18 years at Chelsea after joining as a youth player, cut a more distant figure in his farewell post ahead of his £60million move to Manchester United last summer.

Followers were under no illusions about which of the two they felt was more genuine, and some even made further comparisons to César Azpilicueta’s tearful message last July.

‘”Why is Mason Mount still getting hate from Chelsea fans?”‘ wrote one fan on X, formerly Twitter. ‘Look at the difference, that’s why’, they noted, reflecting on the three farewell posts.

Some Chelsea fans have offered an unflattering portrayal of Mason Mount's affection for his boyhood club by comparing his farewell message to other recent departures.

Another slammed Mount, saying: “Being ‘Propa Chels’ is something that’s ingrained in you, not just being a spoiled Cobham graduate.”

’18 years old versus 4 years old. I still can’t get over this video of Mason Mount’s departure. Now compare him to Thiago Silva.” Wrote a third.

Another follower said: “Man tears, Mason Mount had his goodbye video in his drafts before he posted it.”

Speaking on Instagram last July, Mount admitted that his departure was unlikely to come as a shock, considering the speculation that had surrounded his future in the previous six months.

He said it was the right time to move on before thanking a number of people for helping him on his journey at Chelsea, including former coaches Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter and academy bosses Jim Fraser and Neil Bath.

The content of Silva’s message was similar, although his delivery was undoubtedly more emotional. The veteran defender also left the door open to a possible return to the club, probably as a coach.

‘Chelsea means a lot to me. “I came here with the intention of staying only one year and in the end it was four years,” he said via Chelsea’s website. “Not only for me but also for my family.”

He concluded his message by saying: ‘(It’s been a) dream, definitely a dream. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I could achieve such great things and win one of the best professional titles, the Champions League, in one of the biggest clubs in the world.
