Chelsea draw up ‘eight-man transfer shortlist’ to solve defensive crisis
Chelsea ‘make an EIGHT MAN transfer list’ to solve their defensive crisis, with Jules Kounde and Joska Gvardiol at the top of the list… and also have an eye on a surprising move for Raheem Sterling
- Chelsea have drawn up a shortlist of eight defenders to sign this summer
- The Blues have put Jules Kounde and Josko Gvardiol at the top of their wish list
- Thomas Tuchel will only be able to start operations once the acquisition is complete
- Todd Boehly takeover expected to be approved within 24 hours
Chelsea have reportedly drawn up a list of eight defenders in a bid to resolve the club’s centre-back crisis once the acquisition of Todd Boehly goes through.
The UK government is expected to approve Chelsea’s £4.25bn sale to a US consortium led by tycoon Boehly within the next 24 hours.
The Blues plan to move quickly in the transfer window once the club has given the green light to resume business, with Jules Kounde and Josko Gvardiol near the top of their list of defensive targets, according to The Telegraph.

Chelsea can only do business once the sale to the US consortium led by Todd Boehly is completed.
Boss Thomas Tuchel has a lot of work ahead of him this summer as he needs to replace Antonio Rudiger, who is heading to Real Madrid, and Andreas Christensen, who is joining Barcelona. He may also have to deal with the departures of Cesar Azpilcueta and Marcos Alonso.
Kounde, 23, appears to be the main target and could finally make it to Stamford Bridge 12 months after seeing a transfer to Chelsea fail.
The Frenchman would help solve the potential problem on the right side of Tuchel’s back three with Azpilicueta’s future in doubt amid interest from Barca.

RB Leipzig youngster Gvardiol has been heavily linked with the Blues for a long period of time as Rudiger’s replacement on the left side of defence.
The 20-year-old has established himself in the first team of the Bundesliga team and helped it reach the semi-final of the Europa League.
Villarreal’s Pau Torres and Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez are also among the top four targets on the eight-man roster according to the report.
They may face competition from Manchester United and Tottenham for Torres, Giménez and Gvardiol and their rivals are also showing interest.

Tuchel doesn’t just want to sign defenders this summer. He is targeting a new midfielder and has previously made it clear that he needs to assess his attack.
Any incoming business could rely heavily on potential exits in those positions to free up team space and for salaries.
A midfielder could be vital as both Jorginho and N’Golo Kante only have one year left on their current contracts at Stamford Bridge.
Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic could be tempted to leave this summer as the trio failed to secure first-team places this season.
The Blues are interested in Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni but appear to have fallen behind both Real Madrid and Liverpool in the race to sign the French international, while appearing to have ruled out a move for Declan Rice with West Ham wanting £ 150 million.

The west London outfit are also considering a shock move for Manchester City star Raheem Sterling if they can trade Werner, Ziyech or Pulisic this summer, with the England star yet to decide on his future.
Tottenham and Arsenal are also interested in Sterling, but the Blues would be a more attractive option at this stage in the 27-year-old’s career if he decided not to sign a contract extension at City.
Sterling will reportedly wait until after England’s Nations League games in June before making a decision on his future.
