Chelsea Clinton defended first child Barron Trump, saying the teenager had an ‘inviolable right to privacy’ even after turning 18.
The former first daughter said Donald Trump’s youngest child, despite growing up in the public eye, was ‘a private citizen’.
‘I feel so strongly that if you are a private citizen, you have an inviolable right to privacy. And I think the media should leave him alone, Chelsea said on ABC’s The View of Barron.
Chelsea Clinton spent her teenage years in the White House when her father Bill Clinton was president. She had to endure the public scandal that came after her father admitted to an affair with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

Barron was 10 when his father became president. Chelsea Clinton was 12 when Bill Clinton won the presidency.
Chelsea Clinton gained a public profile after she graduated from college. She joined the family foundation and campaigned for her mother, Hillary Clinton, on the campaign trail.
Her defense came after former NBC News chief Mike Sington said Barron was ‘fair game’ after the birthday that marks the coming of age. He later deleted the tweet after facing fierce backlash and criticism online.
Sington said Newsweek: ‘I wrote that he was ‘fair game’ now, which means that as an adult he is ‘fair game’ for criticism from the press.
‘Someone pointed out to me that ‘fair game’ could mean fair game to be injured.
‘I don’t want any physical harm so I took it down. I listen to the comments and criticism I receive.’

Barron Trump has faced death threats from those who opposed his father’s actions as president.
He currently lives in Florida with his parents and is considering which college to attend with the help of his mother Melania.
Barron has been kept almost completely out of the limelight for much of his childhood – with much of his youth taking place during his father Donald Trump’s tenure in the White House.
He was the first boy to grow up in the White House since JFK Jr in 1963 – and Barron has lived through many of his family’s scandals in his teenage years.
In January 2018, he was not yet 12 when the media was consumed by porn star Stormy Daniels’ bombshell claims that she had an affair with Anders just four months after Barron’s birth.
During his presidency, Trump’s most ardent critics even resorted to criticizing the young boy as a means of attacking his father.

Trump’s adult children from previous marriages have faced criticism for their public profiles, but Barron’s young age has shielded him from much of the attention.
Chelsea Clinton said Trump’s older children worked in the Trump White House and campaigned for him, so ‘it’s a whole different conversation.’
