An Uber passenger has urged Australians to check their receipts after they were charged twice for using a toll road during their trip.

The customer uploaded a copy of his receipt to social media on Wednesday after using the ride-sharing service for a trip to Melbourne.

‘There is a technical problem that has affected both me and some colleagues. If you enter CityLink from Kings Way you will be tolled twice,” they wrote.

The receipt showed the passenger was charged a toll fee of $10.29 twice as they traveled from Kings Way to Toorak Road via the West Gate Highway.

The additional expense was included in additional travel fees charged to the customer, including an 85-cent booking fee and a government tax worth $1.32.

The total cost of the fee was $61.49.

A spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia that Uber was aware of the issue affecting some customers traveling on the CityLink toll road in Melbourne.

“We are working to repair the issue as quickly as possible and refund affected passengers,” the spokeswoman said.

“We apologize for any inconvenience caused and encourage riders to contact our customer service team through the Help section in the Uber app if they have any questions about the charges on their trip receipt.”

Several Australians said they had also paid double tolls.

‘This happened to me too. They refused to refund,” one person wrote.

“It happened to me and they refunded me right away,” said another.

“OMG ridiculous,” a third added.

Others asked why the problem had not been fixed, stating that they discovered the error years ago.

“I had this happen a lot when I used Uber to get home after work – they always reimbursed me but it was very strange that the problem persisted – this was before Covid when I used to take that route,” one person wrote.

‘Has this not been resolved yet? “I’ve been here almost as long as Uber has been here in Melbourne,” said another.

Other passengers said they were compensated for the double charge immediately.

“I challenged it once and they refunded my toll because they could have just taken (the) Burwood Highway or the M3 to get to the suburbs,” one said.

Uber is understood to be working to provide refunds to passengers affected by the error and affected customers have been urged to contact the ride-sharing company.
