A woman has revealed the strange Covid side effect that lingered about three and a half weeks after being infected.
Former journalist Charlotte Mortlock tested positive earlier this month and has openly shared the effects the virus has had on her.
While she usually reported persistent symptoms — fatigue and anxiety — there was one strong symptom that stood out.
On Thursday, Ms Mortlock said she had an unusually high heart rate that doesn’t drop even when she’s sleeping or resting.
Charlotte Mortlock tested positive for Covid earlier this month and has reported the effects of the virus on her on her Twitter account.
“Since covid 3.5 weeks ago my heart rate has been high all the time,” she wrote in a tweet.
“My Garmin tells me every day that I’ve had ‘virtually no moments of rest.'”
‘I’m reading. I am meditating. I am practicing. I am sleeping. I even made the horrible choice to quit coffee! How long will it take for this to go away?!’
Ms. Mortlock was not alone in her recovery, however, as one person said he went through the same thing.
‘I had the same Charlotte. I also had covid about 4 weeks ago and have had a high heart rate and palpitations ever since,” the person wrote.
Although she mostly reported common symptoms – fatigue and anxiety – her unusually high heart rate caught the public’s attention
“Doc said it should be on time, but he’s running more tests to check and be safe.”
Several people wrote that they had similar symptoms after receiving the Covid vaccine.
“I had the same thing after my second vax. I haven’t slept for two weeks,” said one person.
“Now with chest pain and shortness of breath most say. It is safe and effective though.’
‘Mine looked like this right after the 2nd shot and booster – when I got side effects,’ wrote another.
Ms Mortlock wrote that her heartbeat refuses to relax even when she is resting and sleeping
“When reading the Garmin manual, the stress monitor measures irregularities between heartbeats.”
Although not discussed as much as fatigue and pain, increased heart rate has been recorded in several long-term Covid cases.
The British Heart Foundation said: news.com that many Covid cases had reported a faster heart rate after recovery and suggested it could be the immune response to the infection affecting the autonomic nervous system, not the actual heart.
