Convicted murderer Justin Stein will fight allegations he was in possession of child abuse videos when he faces a 10-day trial in a Sydney court next year.

Stein was convicted earlier this year by a jury of murdering the nine-year-old daughter of his then-partner, Charlise Mutten.

Last month, Judge Helen Wilson sentenced Stein to life in prison after he was found to have shot Charlise on her family’s Mount Wilson property before wrapping her body and dumping it in a barrel near the Colo River.

Months after being arrested in January 2022 for Charlise’s death, Stein, 33, was also charged with two counts of possession of child abuse material.

He was allegedly in possession of videos depicting child sexual abuse.

No material related to Charlise Mutten is alleged.

Stein was due to face a jury starting next month, however his lawyers appeared in Penrith District Court on Friday where they made an application to set aside the trial date.

The Crown Prosecution Service did not object to the application and Judge Craig Everson gave the matter a new trial date of March 17 next year.
