Charlie Dimmock has revealed that Esther Rantzen once told her to wear a bra.

The 54-year-old TV gardener, who appeared on Alan Titchmarsh’s garden makeover show Ground Force in the 1990s, chose not to wear underwear on the show because she found it uncomfortable.

However, TV legend Esther, 81, disagreed with Charlie’s stance and warned her that she would forever be labeled “the braless one.”

“People are still bringing it up now!” Charlie Dimmock reveals that Esther Rantzen warned her to wear a bra after she chose to go underwear-free at Ground Force (pictured in the show in the 1990s)

Charlie recalled: “TV host Esther Rantzen said to me, ‘You’ll be called the braless one for the rest of your life.’

“Ground Force was a long time ago, and I have to say, even now people will bring it up. It’s very stupid.’

The green-fingered TV personality, who was 31 when her show was on air, would often have to be covered in grime along with co-stars Alan Titchmarsh and Tommy Walsh on the program.

So Charlie decided to ditch the underwear as a way to feel more comfortable working in the yard.

The flamed garden guru explained, ‘When you swing a sledgehammer, you want to be comfortable!

“People say, ‘Why don’t you wear a sports bra?’ But those aren’t the most comfortable things in the world.’

Charlie admitted in the past that she finds underwear, even knickers, quite restrictive and prefers to do without.

In a 1996 interview with The Mirror, she said, “I only wear underwear when I have to undress in front of someone.”

She went on to say that if she had to wear knickers, she would size her up because she couldn’t wear tight knickers.

Charlie now appears in the BBC’s Garden Rescue series with the Rich Brothers, where they compete to convince homeowners to use their designs in a garden makeover.
