A bus driver charged after a crash in Brisbane’s CBD that killed an 18-year-old woman was abused as he left court.
Police allege Lindsay Francis Selby, 70, was driving a bus on Edward Street in Brisbane about 5pm on March 8 when she mounted the curb and struck Tia Cameron, 18, before pin her against a building.
Mrs Cameron, an administrative worker, died at the scene while four passengers on the bus were treated for minor injuries.
The 70-year-old appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with one count of careless driving causing death.
Emotions ran high as Selby appeared in court for the first time since the rush hour crash.
Magistrate Ross Mack delayed Selby’s mention on Wednesday for half an hour when a large group of Cameron supporters arrived at court to discuss the matter.
The courtroom was packed and many were forced to stand when Selby appeared, including the victim’s many supporters wearing T-shirts with Cameron’s photo.
Cameron’s partner, Hayden McKinlay, stared at the seated Selby as she stood near him in the courtroom.

Supporters of the 18-year-old were angered when Magistrate Mack adjourned the case within minutes. to allow the forensic accident report to be finalized and provided to the defense.
“I’m kidding,” one follower said, according to the mail.
“We have to go through this again,” said another.
One supporter was overheard calling Selby “a fucking prick.”
Magistrate Mack told Cameron’s supporters to be grateful they were allowed into the courtroom and to let the case take its course.
‘Don’t try it. I’ve given him the courtesy of letting him in, just let him take his course,’ said Judge Mack.
Selby was verbally abused by his supporters, some of whom had to be restrained by others, as he left the courtroom.
However, Magistrate Mack asked if security was required. Selby’s defense attorney, Claire McGee, rejected the offer.
Selby’s supporters protected him when he left.
The 70-year-old man was insulted again as he left the building, as the victim’s supporters followed him down the street.
Selby did not enter a plea during his brief mention.

The court heard that a forensic report into the accident was still being prepared and was not expected to be submitted until August 21.
His matter was then adjourned until September 4.
Friends and family mourned Ms Cameron’s tragic death during an emotional funeral at Brisbane’s Hillsong Theater on March 14.
Attendees heard that Mrs Cameron had always wanted to be a mother, travel the world and buy a house with her partner Mr McKinlay.
A powerful tribute read on Mr Mckinlay’s behalf spoke of their love and future plans together, revealing the last words they said to each other were “I love you”.
