Channel Nine’s Clint Stanaway has revealed he was almost arrested in Paris this week.

The 41-year-old, who is in the French capital to appear on Weekend Today at Olympics, said he had a run-in with authorities after wandering into a restricted area.

Clint said he was stopped by police after accidentally tripping over a new train station scheduled to open next week.

Appearing on Nova 100 The Jase and Lauren Show On Friday, Clint said he knew “something wasn’t right” about his situation when there were no other passengers on the train platform except him.

‘YO “Listen to this: ‘Sir! Excuse me, sir!'” he said.

“I had inadvertently breached security, I was out of bounds and in a no-go zone.”

The Weekend Today host added that the episode with the police quickly fizzled out when they realised he was from “out of town”.

“It was a brand new station that was due to open next week, coinciding with the Olympics and the opening ceremony,” he said, adding: “(The police) were not happy.”

Clint said the security breach occurred on his first day in Paris while he was exploring public transportation options, including the city’s metro rail system.

Elsewhere in the chat with hosts Jason Hawkins and Lauren Phillips, Clint described how French authorities have imposed severe security restrictions in Paris in preparation for the Olympics, which begin on July 26.

He said the police and army had created a “ring of steel” around Paris.

“They’re actually trying to, in some ways, shut down that central business district,” he explained.

He added that authorities have put up wire fences across the city for security purposes, while he also noticed a heavy police presence on the streets.

“It makes you feel safe and there’s not a lot that can go wrong,” he said.

Clint is one of three new presenters confirmed for Channel Nine’s Weekend Today breakfast show earlier this year.

The network announced Jayne Azzopardi and Clint as the show’s new presenters, with Sophie Walsh taking over as news presenter and Dan Anstey as weather presenter.

Jayne, Clint and Sophie replaced veteran hosts Richard Wilkins, Belinda Russell and Charles Croucher.
