Cesc Fabregas has claimed that chaos on penalties, like that of Chelsea teammates against Everton on Monday, can create a “bad vibe” in the locker room.
Chelsea thrashed a struggling Toffees team 6-0 as Cole Palmer scored four goals to move level with Erling Haaland on 20 goals in the race for the Premier League golden boot, but it was the argument for a penalty that that dominated the post-match discussions.
Fabregas was watching the unpleasant scene unfold between Chelsea players Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson before Palmer took control of the situation and fired from the penalty spot at Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
The former Arsenal and Chelsea Premier League winner was furious at the public display of chaos at Stamford Bridge and insisted he “hated” watching the scene unfold.
Fábregas compared his past experience at Euro 2016, when Sergio Ramos took the ball from him before failing against Croatia, with the incident between Chelsea teammates.

“I had a similar experience at Euro 2016 in Spain against Croatia,” he said on the BBC’s Planet Premier League podcast.
“I was about to take the penalty to make it 2-1 for us and someone came from behind and said, ‘I want to take it.’
“I said, ‘No, I’m the penalty taker.'” I hate when I see this kind of stuff. I think it creates a bad vibe. I just left it and didn’t want to be a part of something so ugly.
“In the end we missed it and then we ended up losing the game,” he added.
Ramos’ missed penalty ended up costing Spain first place in their group at the Euro, as Croatia won 2-1 and meant they had to play Italy in the round of 16 of the competition.

He ended up being eliminated from the competition by Italy at the time and Fabregas evidently still holds a grudge over the incident.
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino was equally displeased by the dispute between his players but admitted the team had “moved on” ahead of facing Man City in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.
“I made it clear after the game. We had a meeting with all the players, staff and sporting directors,” he said.
‘I explained my feelings and delivered a clear message that I conveyed in my media and press conference. “We moved on and I think they understood the situation.”
