The Celtics have Al Horford signed through next season, but that’s not stopping the veteran power forward from putting his family’s mansion in the Boston area on the market for a whopping $9 million.

Horford and his teammates currently hold a 1-0 series lead over the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, so the sale may not be taking up much of their attention right now.

The six-bedroom, seven-bathroom home is protected by a wrought-iron gate and perimeter fence in Brookline, an upscale suburb that has been inhabited by everyone from Tom Brady and Robert Kraft to John F. Kennedy.

The ‘modern masterpiece’ was built in 2021 and sits on a lush 1-acre lot, according to a real estate agent George Sarkis by Douglas Elliman. There’s a two-story foyer, grand staircase, and glass railings, not to mention high ceilings to soak up all the sunlight Eastern Massachusetts can provide.

And what mansion would be complete without a Sub-Zero refrigerator, as well as Miele and Wolf appliances, custom cabinetry, a walk-in pantry, and a full wine room in the chef’s kitchen?

Formal living and dining rooms, a junior master suite, and two half-bathrooms can be found on the first floor, while the second level has “a large master suite and four guest bedrooms, each with en-suite bathrooms and walk-in closets.” According to the real estate agent’s description.

Other features include central air conditioning, which can be difficult to find in a neighborhood as old as Brookline, as well as a fireplace, patio, hot tub, marble countertops, and double vanities.

As for the exterior, it is, of course, landscaped and has a large terrace.

The estimated $77,000 annual property tax bill won’t help the property move, but it’s safe to say anyone who can afford a $9 million home can get by.

Horford, for example, has earned more than $275 million throughout his NBA career, making his property tax bill easily affordable.

The son of Tito Horford, a 7-foot-1 center who played with the Milwaukee Bucks and Washington Bullets in the late ’80s and early ’90s, Al, born in the Dominican Republic, is in his second stint with the Celtics. He first played for Boston from 2016 to 2019, but after signing with Philadelphia in 2019 and being traded to Oklahoma City, Horford returned to Beantown in 2021 in a separate trade.

‘Big Al’, as he is known, is a five-time All-Star and two-time national champion at the University of Florida.

He married Amelia Vega, Miss Universe 2003, in Santo Domingo on December 24, 2011 and the couple now have five children: a son, Ean, as well as daughters Alía, Ava, Nova and the youngest, Mila, who was born in December 2022. .

Horford’s motive for putting the house up for sale is unclear. The 37-year-old is owed $9 million for the 2024-25 season, which would be his 18th since he was selected with the third pick in the 2007 NBA Draft.

The Celtics return to action Thursday in Game 2 of the ECF against the visiting Pacers.
