Meet Aline! Celine Dion fans left stunned after unauthorized biopic used a different name while charting her epic rise to fame

In the tradition of Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman, she gets her own biopic… even if she doesn’t use her real name.

Nevertheless, a trailer for a film based on Celine Dion’s life is getting new attention as the film, titled Aline, will be part of the upcoming out-of-competition lineup at this summer’s postponed Cannes Film Festival.

The film follows the rise of a Canadian singing sensation named Aline Dieu, played by French actress Valerie Lemercier – who bears an undeniable resemblance to the inimitable Dion.

It’s unclear why the film features a character named Aline — and not Celine — but it was likely due to a rights or licensing issue.

The trailer for the film, also directed by Lemercier, talks about the singer’s humble beginnings before she is discovered by a record label.

Anyone who hears her demo tape can’t deny her heaven-sent voice, but there are roadblocks – Aline’s slightly clumsy gait, as well as dental issues.

However, she is soon taken under the wing of her much older manager, which fits perfectly with Celine’s real life – she eventually fell in love with and married her manager Rene Angélil, 26 years her senior, who passed away in 2016.

Strangely enough, Aline uses some of the songs from Dion’s unrivaled catalog, such as Let’s Talk About Love, and the trailer even goes so far as to say that the film is based on Celine’s life in one title card.

However, her real name is never mentioned in the film itself, instead she uses Aline Dieu’s foil.

Previously, Aline would be called The Power Of Love, based on another Celine hit, and in 2019 she would have received the stamp of approval from the diva herself.

Aline will premiere in Cannes in July, followed by a European-wide release this fall.

In addition, an English-language film about Celine is currently in the making.

The film, directed by Quebec-based director Marc-Andre Lavoie, will be called Celine Before Celine and is currently in pre-production.
