Although Barrymore surprised her guest with balloons and flowers for her birthday, she told her she had one more trick up her sleeve.

The 50 First Dates actress stated, “This surprise is very meaningful and comes from your hometown of Charleston, West Virginia. From now on, April 17 is known as Jennifer Garner Day in Charleston.”

Charleston Mayor Amy Goodwin then made a special appearance to explain the actress’s impact on her hometown, and the artist was also given the key to her hometown.

The artist then credited her friend’s work in Charlie’s Angels for taking on such a physical role.

“You showed me a new way. You had shown me something that made me think, “Wait that’s possible? Get me in there, I want to do that.” So nice,” she said.

Garner then spoke of the difficulty of working on the action drama series.

She recalled, “Twenty-two episodes a year every lunch break I had someone waiting for me to teach me how to fight, to teach me a language, to pass … it was just so taxing, and it was also just heaven to to do.’

Barrymore then changed the topic of conversation to feature film 13 Going on 30 saying “This movie means so much to me and my daughters, it meant so much to me when it came out and it means so much to us now.”

Garner then said she’d had conversations with former castmates before about the film’s lasting quality.

“I just knew that, we talked about… how it grows, because I think the kids who were thirteen when it came out are thirty now and god bless them,” she said.
