Health officials are warning of a food poisoning outbreak linked to basil sold at Trader Joe’s.
At least 12 people in seven states became ill with salmonella after eating organic basil from Infinite Herbs, including one person who was hospitalized.
Customers across the United States are urged to throw away products that were sold in 2.5-ounce clamshell containers.
The public is also advised to clean surfaces and items that may have come into contact with contaminated basil, including refrigerator shelves and cutting boards.
In a health alert issued Thursday, the CDC said it was investigating whether other products may also have been contaminated.
The weed was sold in Trader Joe’s stores in 29 states and D.C. and has since been removed from the market.
