Chris Pratt’s stunt double, who died unexpectedly in May, reportedly died from a heart condition that was made worse by excessive alcohol consumption.
Stuntman Tony McFarr died at his home outside Orlando, Florida, on May 17. At the time, his family said they did not know what might have caused his death.
Pratt, who worked with McFarr on films including Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World, even paid tribute to the 47-year-old actor, calling his death “shocking” and “unexpected” as he had always seemed healthy.
The Orange County, Florida, medical examiner reportedly ruled that McFarr’s death was the result of an irregular heart rhythm and a problem with his heart valves, in addition to his alcohol consumption.
The examiner determined that acute alcohol intoxication and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease played a role in her death, noting how her autopsy indicated a history of heavy drinking. TMZ reported.

McFarr, who was just 47 when he died, had more than 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry. His death came as a surprise to those who knew him, as he appeared to be in good health.

“I’m devastated to learn of the loss of my friend and former stuntman,” Pratt said in a video posted to Instagram the day of McFarr’s death.
“We made several films together. We played golf, drank whiskey, smoked cigars and spent endless hours on the set.”
He added: “I’ll never forget his toughness. I remember he got hit in the head really hard (in the opening sequence of Guardians 2) and had several staples stuck in his head; he went right back to work, ready to do it again. He was a real hunk.”
“He was always a gentleman and a professional,” concluded Pratt, who worked with McFarr on four films throughout his career.
“We will miss him. My prayers are with his friends and family, especially his daughter.”
He went on to post a sequence of photos with his stunt double during his work on films such as Passengers, 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and the 2018 Jurassic World sequel, Fallen Kingdom, all in costume.
In addition to a daughter, McFarr also had a wife, Thais McFarr, with whom he ran a health food restaurant called The Fit Kitchen, located in Peachtree City, Georgia.

For reference, the legal blood alcohol limit for driving is 0.08 in most states, meaning McFarr’s blood was nearly four times that concentration at the time her body was found.
He began his career in 2011 with a stint on the police drama Bones, and graduated with a degree in business from Florida State University and earned his MBA from LSU Shreveport.
He also worked briefly as an actor.
