An Indiana football fan suffered a horrific knee injury while preparing to participate in the College GameDay kicking contest on Saturday.
Pat McAfee, Nick Saban and the rest of the ESPN team were in Bloomington this weekend, ahead of the Hoosiers’ game against Washington.
Every week, McAfee offers one person the opportunity to win life-changing money if they can kick a field goal in front of thousands of fans.
On Saturday, spectators watched as Jeram Salles, a freshman from Chicago, twice tried and failed to put the ball between the uprights from 33 yards out.
But the finance student was actually the backup kicker after the first person selected was seriously injured during warmups.
An Indiana football fan suffered a serious knee injury during College GameDay on Saturday.
The fan fell awkwardly on his left knee while practicing for the kicking contest.
McAfee claimed he tore his ACL in the sickening backstage slip, which was caught on camera and posted on social media.
In the clip, the fan can be seen practicing his kicking technique, only to land awkwardly on his knee.
He was left with his legs facing opposite directions and struggled to get back to his feet.
“We’ve already had a catastrophe,” ESPN host Rece Davis announced before McAfee introduced his replacement.
“This is the backup kicker; the first kicker drafted is in the hospital, maybe even in surgery right now,” McAfee said.
‘T and P (thoughts and prayers) to Jake’s knee!’
McAfee then raised the stakes even further, telling Salles that he and Jake would win $100,000 each if he managed to make his first attempt.
“So it’s not just for you, it’s for a knee that was broken before,” the kicker was told.
After the ball deflected off the uprights, McAfee offered Salles the chance to win $150,000 for himself and Jake. But the rookie also missed his second kick.
