Only Down Under: Drivers yawn at a brave cat fighting a venomous brown snake on the side of the road – so how did the cat fare?

  • Kat was seen swiping at an eastern brown snake in a now viral TikTok video
  • The snake was seen hitting at the cat who seemed unfazed by the deadly reptile
  • The woman who filmed the footage said she and her friends chased the cat away

A brave cat is captured in terrifying footage pitting against one of Australia’s deadliest snakes.

The cat can be seen sweeping along the side of a road in southern New South Wales for the eastern brown snake this week.

Despite the highly venomous snake striking the animal, the cat seemed unfazed and continued to poke the reptile with its paw.

The terrifying video was shared to TikTok with many desperate to find out who won the battle.

“The cat never wins,” one person wrote.

“I’ve had two cats do that before and they came out second,” said another.

Other cat owners claimed that their own pets had encountered brown snakes before and miraculously survived.

The woman who filmed the video said that while she had no intention of going anywhere near the deadly snake to protect the cat, she and her friends showed their car’s engine and chased the larger animal away.

Cats are twice as likely to survive from a brown snake bite as dogs, but many are still killed after trying to tackle the deadly reptiles.

Earlier this year, Arthur, a domestic cat, sadly lost his life on the Sunshine Coast after attacking a snake to protect two young children.

Arthur managed to kill the brown snake in the fight but was bitten which proved to be fatal.

EASTERN BROWN SNAKES

Eastern brown snakes can grow up to 2.5 meters in length

They can be found all over Eastern Australia, from northern Queensland to southern Victoria

The snakes are one of the most dangerous in the world and can kill people if bites are left untreated within half an hour

They are responsible for killing most of the humans from other snake species.
