Michael Caton’s impressive acting career spans more than five decades.

But the Australian who acted great candidly admitted that he doesn’t think he will live long, in his interview with ABC’s Australian Story, on Monday.

The 78-year-old said he acknowledged he is not as healthy as he once was and that his lifestyle is catching up with him.

“I’m at that point in my life where the eyes play, the lungs play, the balance isn’t as good as it used to be and you realize it’s all downhill from here — you’re not going to get another round.

“My lifestyle and all the cigarettes and booze and everything else I’ve had over the years doesn’t make for longevity,” he said.

Elsewhere in his Australian Story interview, the seasoned film and TV star revealed that he struggles with his memory and vocabulary, especially remembering scripts.

“You have to work twice as hard as I do, probably three times as hard as you used to, especially when you get a big page of dialogue,” he said.

Michael is best known for his role as warrior Darryl Kerrigan in the 1997 comedy The Castle, for which he was paid just $3,000 to star.

Directed by Rob Sitch, The Castle told the story of a Melbourne family man who fights to prevent his home from being taken over by the government in his plans to expand a nearby airport.

Despite its extremely low budget of just $750,000, The Castle was a financial success, grossing $10.3 million at the box office in Australia.

Since then, Caton has appeared in a slew of top-rated Australian dramas, including Packed to the Rafters, Strange Bedfellows, The Animal and All Saints.

He also co-starred with Sam Neill in Rams last year and will also appear in the upcoming Packed to the Rafters reboot, Back to the Rafters.
