Nevada was rocked by an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale, the United States Geological Survey reported Monday afternoon.

The monstrous quake struck near Carson City – just outside of Reno – and was felt as far away as Sacramento, California.

The earthquake occurred around 3:08 PM local time, 23.4 kilometers northeast of Yerington.

It was not immediately clear whether there were any injuries or damage as a result of the earthquake.

Residents in Reno, Roseville and Sacramento reported feeling the quake.

It struck a depth of 0.03 miles and was followed by additional aftershocks, 2NewsNevada reported.

A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Northern California on Thursday, raising concerns about a possible tsunami.

The earthquake struck at 10:44 a.m., 45 miles off the coast of Eureka, and an aftershock was felt in San Francisco shortly afterwards.

The subsequent tsunami warning was sent to California phones, telling them to seek higher ground immediately.

You’re in danger!’ it warned. By 12:00 noon PST, the tsunami warning had been lifted.

But the initial impact shook households and stirred waves in backyard pools.

Earthquakes occur along the boundary between two tectonic plates, such as the San Andreas Fault.

Tectonic plates are constantly moving, but sometimes they stick together at their edges.

Eventually, the tension of the moving plates will loosen them, with the energy released when loosening causing earthquakes.

This is a breaking news story.
