Carrie Underwood has said she is “honoured” and “humbled” to sing at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration in a statement about her upcoming controversial performance.
“I love our country and I am honored to have been asked to sing at the inauguration and be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood, 41, said in a statement obtained by USA today.
“I am honored to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in a spirit of unity and look to the future.”
The country singing superstar, 41, is scheduled to sing America The Beautiful after Trump is sworn in, as is his vice president pick, JD Vance.
Fans are divided over the news, with some praising the artist and others condemning her controversial decision to perform at Trump’s inauguration.

Carrie will perform the song on January 20 with the Armed Forces Chorus and Glee Club at the United States Naval Academy after the US Chief Justice administers the presidential oath to Trump.
Another called it “perfect,” while another said it was a “solid choice.”
“No Kid Rock or Jason Aldean use Carrie Underwood to get (sic) Trump’s rating, I’m not watching a convict take the oath of office, what a joke,” someone on X wrote.
Kid Rock and Jason have been very public about their support for Trump.
Another had harsh words for the rest of Hollywood upon hearing the news about Carrie.
“It’s nice to know she’s not some Hollywood bloodsucking vampire,” they wrote.
“Good for Carrie Underwood,” exclaimed a Trump supporter on the social network.
