Carrie Bickmore’s former partner of 11 years, Chris Walker, has broken his silence on the couple’s painful split early last year.

TV producer tells of an upcoming episode of Luke Darcy’s Empowering leaders podcast, as reported by the Herald of the Sun On Sunday, he is dealing with the “pain” of separation.

Chris explained that the hardest part of their new co-parenting arrangement is “saying goodbye to the kids twice a week.”

“I still find it a huge challenge. I always assumed I would be with them 100 percent of the time,” he explained.

“When it comes to being a father, I was born to do it. I love it and I want to be with them all the time. I find it very difficult.”

Chris added that his friends and family were supporting him during the “hardest times” but added that “the problem is that the pain can last a long time.”

Carrie announced their split in an Instagram post in January last year, saying the couple were focused on co-parenting their three children, Ollie, 16, Evie, eight, and Adelaide, five.

“It is with immense sadness that Chris and I have decided to separate,” she wrote.

‘While this is a difficult time, our focus is on raising, loving and supporting our three children Ollie, Evie and Addie with everything we have.

“They are doing very well. We will not make any further comments.”

Bickmore and Walker’s love story captured the hearts of Australians.

They met as colleagues on The Project (she was a presenter, he a producer) and began dating in late 2012, two years after she lost her husband Greg Lange, the father of her eldest son Ollie, to brain cancer.

Despite his terminal diagnosis, Bickmore had married Langue in 2005, when she was just 25 years old.

After Langue died in 2010 at the age of 35, Bickmore, now widowed, founded the charity Carrie’s Beanies for Brain Cancer in her memory.

Two years later, Bickmore found love again with Walker, who became Oliver’s stepfather and with whom she later had two daughters: Evie, born in 2015, and Adelaide, born in 2018.

In November, Carrie put her stunning five-bedroom, three-bathroom Byron Bay property up for sale, 10 months after her split from partner Chris Walker.

The former Project star’s vacation home, which was recently used as an Airbnb rental, has been listed for sale for $3.65 million.
