Carnage in flashy Newport Beach as owner of $5 million mansion shoots intruder who broke in with accomplice at 4am while his family slept before second suspect ‘commits suicide’ after fleeing

  • A Newport Beach homeowner shot an intruder Tuesday morning.
  • A second suspect was found inside a bush with a “self-inflicted” gunshot wound.
  • Police believe the suspects and family knew each other, but it is unclear how.

A brave Newport Beach homeowner protected his $5 million mansion after two daring intruders tried to enter his property.

The bizarre incident left one of the suspects dead and another bleeding in the middle of the street after the owner shot him in an attempt to defend his sleeping family.

Around 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, a resident inside the home called 911 and reported a possible home invasion. They also told police the owner shot one of the intruders.

Another suspect was found dead after fleeing the home and appeared to suffer from a “self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head,” police said.

When officers arrived at the home inside a gated community at Newport Coast Drive and Pelican Hill Road, they found the suspect lying in the street, armed with a gun and suffering from gunshot wounds.

One of the suspects was shot by the homeowner and taken to the hospital, while the other was found with an apparent “self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.”

Investigators believe the invasion was a “targeted incident” between the suspects and the homeowners. It is not clear what their relationship is.

The suspect found on the street was taken to a nearby hospital. His condition is unclear.

His accomplice was discovered in some nearby bushes and pronounced dead at the scene.

The four people inside the home “were safely evacuated and unharmed.”

Police were seen outside the huge house as they carefully approached the front door with weapons drawn.

Several officers and a police dog were seen entering the home through the front doors.

The motive for the invasion is unclear, but police said it was not a random attack on the home.

“This is a targeted incident, it’s isolated,” said Sgt. Steve Oberon said.

“I want to assure the Newport Beach community, the residents, that this is a safe community and that the Newport Beach Police Department is doing everything possible to ensure the safety of the community.”

The previous owners of the house, Belle Tatsing and Sally Tatsing, told DailyMail.com that they were surprised to see their old house on the news.

Belle said it is “uncommon” for burglaries and home invasions to occur in a safe and prosperous community.

“Surely it wasn’t a random invasion,” Belle said.

She and her mother previously lived in the house which they rented until July 2022.

According to Zillow, the home recently sold in January 2024 for just over $5 million.

The luxurious home has six bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms, a three-car garage, pool, patio, walk-in closet, and stunning views of the area.
