Carlton star Zac Williams shared his heartbreak on Wednesday after his sister, Samantha, lost her battle with cancer.
Samantha, a mother of three, was diagnosed with cancer for the second time three days before Christmas of 2021. Doctors told her in April this year that she was terminal.
The footy community threw their arms around Williams’ older sister and this afternoon the AFL player confirmed the news that his sister has passed away.
“Truly heartbroken but my beautiful sister Sam passed away yesterday,” he wrote on Instagram. “She taught me so many things and showed me the true meaning of strength and love.”
His club, Carlton, also paid tribute to Samantha, posting on Twitter: We wrap our arms around us and give all our love to Zac and the Williams family. Valley, Sammy.”

Williams’ old club GWS Giants said, “Our love for you and your family.”
‘Love ya bro,’ said Geelong star and former Giant Jeremy Cameron.
Cameron’s partner added, “Sending love and strength to you and your family, Zac, I’m so sorry.”
After her terminal diagnosis, a GoFundMe page was set up to help Samantha and her family fight cancer. More than $25,000 has been raised so far.
In April, a family statement said: “Most of all, we wish we didn’t have to write this, but on December 22, 2021, just three days before Christmas, our world was turned upside down when we learned that Samantha has cancer for the second time . .
Now over a year later, Samantha is still battling a now terminal diagnosis.
“As you can imagine, this has had a huge emotional, physical and financial impact on Sam and her family.
“Samantha has a wonderful husband and three beautiful children who are doing their best to adjust to their wife and mother’s constant struggle.”
The family was also supported by Kellie Finlayson, wife of Williams ex-GWS Giants teammate Jeremy. She is also battling her own terminal cancer.
