Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is not worried about Kylian Mbappe’s start at the club after the French forward failed to score in his first two league games.

Mbappe, 25, joined the La Liga and Champions League winners as a free agent from Paris Saint-Germain in June, ending a transfer saga that had dragged on for years.

Despite scoring on his debut in the 2-0 win over Europa League champions Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup final, Mbappe is yet to find the net in two LaLiga games and struggled in both the draw at Mallorca and the dismal home win against Real Valladolid.

“His last goal was on August 14. It’s only been two weeks since then, there’s no reason to worry. Neither we as a club are worried, nor is he,” Ancelotti told a news conference on Wednesday, ahead of Thursday’s La Liga match at Las Palmas.

‘He’s very happy here, delighted, sure that he wants to score in the next game. Vinicius is also happy, he hasn’t scored yet this season and I don’t see him worried either.

‘(Mbappé) is progressing very well, I see him getting better every day, excited, motivated, training well. He is very humble. I think his adaptation is going very well.’

Ancelotti added that a slow start was expected following the retirement of key midfielder Toni Kroos, while they are also trying to fit Mbappe into a new centre-forward role.

The French captain has spent most of his career playing from the flanks.

However, with Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo Goes the stars of Los Blancos’ squad, Mbappé looks destined to play primarily through the middle for the Spanish titans.

“Every year has its own challenge because there are changes in the structure of a team, in the system that is implemented,” said Ancelotti.

‘Last year we also needed time at the beginning of the season, we needed a goal at the end to get a result in many games.

‘It will take some time until we find our charm and the best version of ourselves, but that’s normal.

“Last year I didn’t ask Toni Kroos to be Aurelien Tchouameni, and I won’t ask Tchouameni to be Kroos either. Every player has his own characteristics.
