Carlo Ancelotti was optimistic about his chances of staying on as Real Madrid boss next season, despite their embarrassing loss to Man City in the Champions League semi-finals.
Los Blancos were humiliated by Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad on Wednesday in a 4-0 defeat thanks to two goals from Bernardo Silva, one from Manuel Akanji, before Julian Alvarez added the winning brilliance scoring in added time.
It meant City progressed to the final at Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium on June 10 after a 5-1 aggregate win and face Inter Milan.
Ancelotti’s contract expires at the end of next season and there has been speculation over his future after what will be an ultimately disappointing year for Real.
They have failed to regain their LaLiga title and are 14 points behind Barcelona, as they are set to end the campaign with just the Copa del Rey title – something which is far from the standards demanded by President Florentino Perez.

Ancelotti has also been linked with the vacancy in Brazil, with the South American nation seeing him as their main target to replace Tite who left after the World Cup.
But asked about his future after the City defeat, the Italian insisted he would keep his job and use the painful defeat as motivation for next season.
“We lost against a team with more quality and more intensity than us,” he said. The Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Last year we were superior, and this year they were superior. It’s a loss that hurts a lot. They have been much better, there is no choice but to think about next season.
“Next season I will be there to fight to win another Champions League.
‘No one doubts me. I think the president was very clear 15 days ago. What he tells me in private, I will not say here.
Despite the loss, it was a historic night for Ancelotti given it was his 191st game as a Champions League manager, meaning he surpassed Sir Alex Ferguson’s record of 190 games in the competition.
The 63-year-old remains one of the greatest managers of the modern era, winning four European Cups combined with Real Madrid and AC Milan.
In two stints with Los Blancos, he won 10 trophies and 167 of his 232 games in charge.
