They placed an SUV that met the description and started following it, but it then accelerated and crossed a red light, the report obtained by 12News states.

The police chased him and he reportedly reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. At one point, the suspect went to the wrong side of the road and almost hit a state trooper, DPS said.

The arrest report also mentions that the Las Vegas resident tried to raise two other vehicles with a high jack but was unsuccessful.

The police used spikes on the road to stop Jaimes and could blow off one of his tires. However, he continued to drive and endanger the police, they say.

The stolen SUV ran off the road and flew off a large cliff into a gap of US-89 at landmark 303, just after 10 p.m.

Jaimes jumped out when the vehicle went over the edge of the cliff. He later turned out to hide from agents in a tree on the edge of the gorge and was treated for minor injuries.

The suspect would not give his name in the beginning when the police arrested him and took him to prison.
