The Cardiff City striker, Ibrahim Meite, will leave the club on a free transfer in January with Russia as a possible destination.

Meite, 22, made only two games in the first squad for the Bluebirds after joining them in January 2017 and spent the first half of last season on loan to League Two side Crawley Town.

The attacker had a trial with Russian Premier League club FC Ural Yekaterinburg last month at their training camp in mid-season in Cyprus.

He played 45 minutes behind closed doors against Cypriot top flyer Enosis Neon Paralimni, scoring in a 4-3 defeat.

Besides Ural there is also interest from the Russian club Spartak Moscow and Premier League Side Watford, Championship promotion champions West Brom, French side Saint-Etienne and German Bundesliga wrestlers Hanover.

With growing interest, Meite seems certain to leave Cardiff during the January window.

Meite, born in Roehampton, in south-west London, came through the AG Academy before playing in the lead roles for non-league club Harrow Borough, where he scored 13 goals in 28 games in the 2016-17 season.

That led to a lawsuit with reigning Premier League champions Leicester City in October 2016, before Cardiff manager Neil Warnock bit the fast attacker in January 2017.

Meite came off the bench to make his professional debut in Cardiff's 0-0 draw at Wigan Athletic in April 2017 and then played in their EFL Cup draw with Portsmouth at the start of the next season.

He was then loaned to Crawley, where he found the net three times in 22 outings.
