Cardiff 2-1 Brighton: Sol Bamba fires in last winner to seal vital victory

These are the kind of matches that Neil Warnock lives for. For his 100th match as Cardiff manager there was fury, there was thunder and, of course, there was a last-minute winner.

It came through courtesy of Sol Bamba, who struck the ball in the roof of the net, although Brighton left feeling it also came courtesy of the officials in the Cardiff City Stadium.

Referee Martin Atkinson sent Dale Stephens away in the 34th minute and left the visitors behind the wall for an hour. They held out until the 90th when Cardiff struck.

If you're looking for the most relieved man in Wales, look no further than Bamba. After he made a mistake in the sixth minute for Brighton's opener, he dissolved himself.

The big question, however, was: was it a red or not? For Warnock it was a shin-splitting studs-shocker of a challenge. There was little to no contact for Hughton.

In reality, Stephens slipped into Greg Cunningham and did so dangerously. He had gotten out of control and Atkinson went through the letter of the law.

There is a sense of pragmatism at Brighton. Like striker Glenn Murray said before this match: "It is clear that we are both relegation candidates. & # 39; They knew how big this game was.

It was hardly a bad way to celebrate being summoned by England. & # 39; He is one of our & # 39 ;, sang supporters about the Brighton-born defender, whose youth career began in 2010 at the club.

In his previous 47 Premier League appearances, Dunk scored once. Now, after last week's goal against Everton, he had two in two.

Cardiff looked slow. Then, from nowhere, they were back in again.

A smart run by Kadeem Harris led to a cross by Gaetan Bong. The deflection saw the ball run over the Brighton defenders and left Callum Paterson with a tap.

The striker said thank you very much and had his third goal in four games.

It then became an advantage for Cardiff when Stephens was sent out for his challenge at Cunningham, who was lucky that his shin remained intact. He had slipped dangerously with studs that were visible, regardless of whether the contact was not as dramatic as initially thought.

Cardiff's players were accused of Atkinson, who was surrounded by blue. He produced red properly and Brighton stayed behind to 10 with 34 minutes on the clock.

Warnock & # 39; s party previously played twice in the Premier League against 10 men. Against Newcastle and Huddersfield they made the equalizer 0-0.

They hoped that the third time was the charm and Cardiff started to improve himself after the break.

On the hour Harris set the bar with a curled shot of 20 meters. Goalkeeper Mat Ryan had dived in vain and was relieved that he was rebounding the woodwork.

From the action, Cardiff captain Sean Morrison had to be replaced in the 69th minute after a clash of heads. Yet the first incident, which seemed to make him confused and confused, happened in 57th place. As he walked away, he apparently complained about his vision.

Brighton was looking for a stunner and grabbed it and got it almost in the last 10 minutes. Jose Izquierdo unleashed a fierce attempt to save Neil Etheridge with one hand.

Then the winner. Bamba may have made the mistake for Brighton's opener, but he made up for it.

First the defender tried a tilting shovel that rebounded from the woodwork. Paterson then saw that his rebound was erased by the great Dunk.

Yet Bamba got a bite of the cherry. This time he hit the ball past Ryan. With replays it turned out that there might be offside in the build-up, although it depends on whose head the ball came off. Yet Hughton felt that decisions were going against his side all afternoon.

There was no time for them to come back and that was that. This was a must-win for Cardiff and they got what they came for.
