Cara Delevingne credited her sobriety with helping her mentally cope with the aftermath of a fire at her Studio City, California, mansion nearly four months ago.

The 31-year-old actress and model, in an interview published Sunday, said that being sober and present in the midst of the traumatic event in her life ultimately helped her recover emotionally.

“It’s a shame, but everyone was safe and, like everything, if I hadn’t been sober, I would still be recovering from it,” Delevingne said. The times‘It would still affect me deeply.’

The London native said that while she is still shaken by the fire, she is focused on moving forward rather than wallowing in sadness over what happened.

Delevingne, who said she decided to make changes in her life in 2022, said she can feel the emotional differences in the years since then.

“I used to think that drugs and alcohol helped me cope, but they didn’t. They kept me sad and very depressed,” she said. “I feel like I’ve taken my power back and that I’m not controlled by other things.”

No one was seriously injured in the fire, as Delevingne was abroad in London at the time of the blaze, as well as being part of the cast of Cabaret in the West End, and her pets were confirmed to be fine.

Delevingne said that despite the setback, she plans to continue living in the United States and does not plan to return to England.

Los Angeles Fire Department officials said the cause of the fire had been “undetermined” after an investigation, according to TMZadding that no crime had been suspected.

Delevingne took to Instagram Stories to express her gratitude towards first responders following the fire.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the firefighters and the people who came to help,” he said.

Since rising to fame as a model, Delevingne has delved into acting with prominent roles in films such as 2016’s Suicide Squad and 2017’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

She has been seen in television shows including Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building in 2022 and the FX series American Horror Story in 2023.
