Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji criticized the actions of referee Anthony Taylor after the reigning champions’ goalless draw against Arsenal on Sunday.

The stalemate at the Etihad Stadium saw Man City and Arsenal lose ground to Liverpool in the title race.

Manchester City seemed frustrated during the clash against the Arsenal players, avoiding sanctions for a series of fouls that interrupted the match.

Akanji claimed after the match that he “didn’t understand” some decisions made by Taylor and suggested that the referee had missed “clear yellow cards”.

‘I don’t understand. One in the first half (from Kai Havertz) was a very late tackle on Stefan. For me it’s clearly a yellow card,” Akanji said.

‘I don’t mean just against us. There were also some decisions against them that I didn’t understand why they were wrong.

‘There are some rules and I think there are clear yellow cards where they should be. I remember the action with Jorginho when he had already made one tackle and made the second and didn’t even get a yellow card for a foul.

“I didn’t understand some decisions, but in the end we should still be able to score a goal.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya and striker Gabriel Jesús were the only players booked in the match.
