A Sydney worker revealed he earns around $50 an hour working in the city's skyscrapers.

An Australian has revealed he was only required to undergo a week of training and now earns $50 an hour to maintain high-rise buildings.

The Sydney man discussed his salary and experience in an interview with Getahead, an app that connects job seekers with job opportunities in Australia.

The video went viral on TikTok, attracting nearly 25,000 views since it was first uploaded on Friday.

The man said he works in skyscrapers and performs tasks ranging from cleaning windows to helping maintain or restore the integrity of the buildings.

“We always do a different type of work, it can be like repair work because old buildings sometimes have cracks,” he said.

‘It can cost between $45 and $50 and sometimes more. It depends on the type of work we do.

The man got the job after completing a week-long training course through the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA).

No college degree is required for the position.

“Just one week of training, the tickets, they call it IRATA,” he explained.

According to the leading employment website SEEK, the average rope access worker earns between $80,000 and $90,000 a year, with some earning as much as $100,000.

The Australian explained that he does not believe the job is particularly dangerous and said there is a second safety rope to lean on.

While there’s no doubt that having a head for heights is essential for the role, he said he found the rappelling portion of the job to be quite fun.

“Yes, it is (exciting) at first and after a few years, when you work like that, you get into a routine,” he said.

‘We are on two ropes. If you fall off that one, you’ll get that one.’

Some social media users were surprised by what skyscraper workers earn.

Others said it was important to consider that most people wouldn’t be able to do that kind of work.

“Keep in mind that 95 percent of people couldn’t do it,” one person said.

“Some buildings are 50 stories high, I don’t think many have the capacity to do that,” wrote another.
