Candice Warner has come to the defense of Latrell Mitchell after he raised eyebrows with a post-match radio interview on Thursday night.

Mitchell, 26, endured a mixed night at Suncorp Stadium as the Bunnies lost their second game in a row to open the 2024 season.

Speaking to Triple M’s Ben Dobbin, the homegrown star lamented his side didn’t take their chances as they were outclassed 28-18.

“Look, honestly, f**k, it was bad,” Mitchell began.

‘In the first half it was just a hard fight, f**k, we showed what we’re about.

Rabbitohs back Latrell Mitchell is likely to get a phone call from the NRL after being banded on live radio several times following his side’s defeat to the Broncos on Thursday

‘Honestly, they (Broncos) are big boys, they are competitors. You wonder why they came second last year, so f**k, we can build on that.

“I don’t care if I swear, boys, honestly.”

Mitchell then explained he was pleased to score his 100th NRL try during the game and added another F-bomb.

Dobbin kept his cool before Fox League commentator Dan Ginnane firmly ‘thanked’ Mitchell for his time on air.

Warner, wife of cricket legend David Warner, came to Mitchell’s defense on Triple M, suggesting that any other player would not have received such a backlash from fans and the media.

“Listen to these names,” she said. ‘Tom Brady, Coby Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Patrick Mahomes. These are just a few athletes who have all sworn…

‘Does it change our opinion of the incredible athletes? Or is it because it’s Latrell Mitchell?’

Warner’s co-host Richard Freedman hit back, saying it was Mitchell’s brash, unapologetic behavior that was the problem.

“Latrell Mitchell repeatedly cursed on the air — when he knew he was on the air — and then said ‘I don’t care’ and didn’t apologize for it,” Freedman said.

Candice Warner believes Mitchell may be unnecessarily targeted for the incident

NRL CEO Andrew Abdo said it was important players were authentic – but they should also be respectful.

“They (all) know they are professionals and role models, which means setting an example,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald.

‘When we speak to fans via media interviews, we have a responsibility to be respectful.’
