Far-right commentator Candace Owens has left the right-wing website Daily Wire amid tensions over her alleged anti-Semitism and opposition to U.S. funding of Israel’s war in Gaza.
“Daily Wire and Candace Owens ended their relationship” said Jeremy Boreing, co-founder of the site with right-wing commentator Ben Shapiro, who confronted with Owens and is a strong supporter of Israel and its actions.
In his own post, Owens, who hosted a commentary show for the site, said: “The rumors are true – I’m finally free.”
Owens said she would bring her show to YouTube “after a brief hiatus.”
Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, killing more than 1,100 people and taking hostages. Israel’s response air and ground attacks have killed more than 30,000 people and pushed Gaza to the brink of famine.
Owens criticized American support for Israel, but also thoughtful about “political Jews” and a “very small circle of specific people who use the fact that they are Jewish to protect themselves from criticism,” notes Shapiro called “absolutely shameful”.
Monday, on social media, Owens love a post in which a user asked Shmuley Boteach, a well-known rabbi, if he was “still drunk on Christian blood.”
Owens was later criticized by the Anti-Defamation League. The ADL, which campaigns against anti-Semitism, job a report from progressive watchdog Media Matters on remarks in which Holocaust denier and white supremacist Nick Fuentes praised Owens for mounting “a full-blown war on Jews.”
Fuentes, the ADL said, “praises Candace Owens’ vitriolic anti-Semitism. This is not surprising, but it does raise alarms: when bigots come together to promote an anti-Semitic agenda, it fuels the fire of hatred.”
Owens said: “I don’t know Nick Fuentes… what I do know is that everyone can see what you’re doing to me. Your model is well established and the world is taking notice. My crime is defending myself against your smear network.
She also said she was being attacked because she did not believe “that American taxpayers should have to pay for Israel’s wars or those of any other country.”
