Using the allegedly stolen funds, which prosecutors say he accessed by transferring money from his parents’ account to his own without their permission, he allegedly attempted to kill his parents.
The prosecution’s case against the woman alleged that she had a “difficult and bitter” relationship with her parents and often felt left out as a child.
While the facts of the case have not yet been agreed upon, it is alleged that the woman used a dark web forum called The Sinaloa Cartel Marketplace to offer $20,000 to a hitman.
A forum administrator, who used the name ‘Juan’, agreed to do the job: the woman would pay half of the fees up front and the second half once she received her inheritance, valued at one-third of her parents’ wealth. .
However, his plan came to an abrupt end when journalists investigating the dark web allegedly discovered his plan and reported it to the police.
ACT Police believe ‘Juan’ was a conman who had no intention of carrying out the murders.
The woman was arrested for the alleged crimes in December 2020 and breached her bail conditions three times, landing her behind bars in late 2021.
His case is scheduled to go before a registrar later this week, during which a date could be set for the start of his sentencing.
