Canadian waitress revealed fury after Australian family 'forgot' to tip her after expensive meal

A Canadian waitress has revealed her fury after an Australian family ‘forgot’ to tip her after an expensive meal.

Zarya recently served an Australian family whose bill came to 200 Canadian dollars (216 Australian dollars), but they simply paid their dues and left without leaving the usual 18 to 20 percent extra in tips.

“I will never serve Australians again,” declared the young waitress. ‘Bye bye.’

While it is common to tip servers in the US and Canada, countries like Australia, New Zealand, and most European nations do not follow the same custom.

Australians responded to Zarya’s TikTok, claiming they travel to other countries “for a holiday, not a charity trip.”

A 20 percent tip would have cost the family an additional $40 on top of the $200 bill.

The minimum wage in Canada is $17.30, which is approximately $19 Australian dollars, $4 less than the minimum wage in Australia.

Zarya revealed that one of her friends who was present at the restaurant gave her an additional $30CAD ($33AUD) to supplement her meager income.

He worked for five hours and received $83 CAD, and then an additional $150 CAD in tips.

‘I understand you’re not from this country, but still. Go ahead,” she said of the ungrateful customers.

“I did everything I could for that Australian family.”

Several Australians shared their opinions on the matter.

“Honestly, it was probably too expensive to tip afterwards,” one said.

‘In Australia we pay for our food, not our salaries. Talk to your boss,” wrote another.

“Australians also only tip for good service, so if plates are thrown and I’m waiting, there’s no way I’m leaving an 18 per cent tip.” Standard tipping in America is ridiculous!’ said an Australian.

But many claimed the Australian family was wrong.

“Don’t go to another country if you can’t follow the customs and rules there,” said one.

“People should research the cultural norms of the countries they visit to avoid embarrassment,” wrote another.

“As an Australian, I was tipped a lot in Hawaii,” one man shared.

‘A lot [servers] live off tips. It seems counterproductive and even toxic not to tip as a form of protest against the government’s outdated system. But they have no problem spending money in the system for vacations,” added one woman.
