Canada has unveiled a new passport design with advanced security features, where personal information will be laser engraved rather than printed in ink.
Pictures related to nature in Canada will also be printed on the pages of the passport, but they will only appear using ultraviolet light.
In addition, the cover design has been changed for the first time in decades, so the golden coat of arms will be combined with the maple leaves popular in Canada, and the cover color will remain the same. The new passport will begin rolling out later this summer.
“The new Canadian passport is more than just a travel document. It is a representation of our national identity and values,” said the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.
“It is a reminder of Canada’s beauty and diversity, and reflects the country’s commitment to welcoming people from all over the world,” he added.
In a nod to Canada’s place in the British Commonwealth, the new travel document also makes reference to the British royal family. However, due to the lengthy design process, the passport will display the crest of Queen Elizabeth II rather than that of the newly crowned King Charles III.
