Football fans are demanding answers after Collingwood and Richmond played awkwardly at Princes Park, the home of rivals Carlton, in an AFL pre-season clash on Tuesday night.

While the Magpies ran out of 30-point winners as they prepare to defend their premiership, a major talking point online was that the Blues logo was clearly visible in the background during the contest.

This sparked many fans of both the Magpies and Tigers, who took to social media to express their frustration.

If anyone can understand why Collingwood and Richmond play at Carlton’s ground, you’re a genius. Vic Park, Punt Road, AIA Centre, [are] all available and really aligned with the clubs. Why give money to Carlton?’ raged one supporter.

Another posted in response: “Because it’s better land than Victoria Park and Punt Rd.”

On the field, in what was the first AFL Charity Shield match for Foodbank, premiership heroes Jordan De Goey, Nick Daicos and Josh Daicos impressed with the hit.

Patrick Lipinski’s performance of 23 possessions and two goals saw him better on the field and bodes well for Collingwood’s midfield ahead of their season opener against GWS on March 9 at Giants Stadium.

The pre-season ‘friendly’ ended with bizarre scenes when Collingwood’s towering ruckman Mason Cox brawled with Richmond utility Marlion Pickett seconds before the siren sounded.

Other players soon became involved in the fray, allowing Magpies star Billy Frampton to kick home a long bomb from 65 yards out.

Ironically, Princes Park, currently better known as Ikon Park, will be in action on Wednesday night when Michael Voss’ Carlton take on the Melbourne Demons starting at 6:40pm AEDT.
