EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: Queen Camilla will be adorned with the dove ivory bar during her coronation with King Charles, despite Prince William’s vehemently anti-ivory views
Despite William’s vehement anti-ivory views, his stepmother, Queen Camilla, will be adorned with the dove ivory bar along with King Charles during her coronation.
Botswana chief Rebecca Banika confirms that objection is not universal and enthusiastically supports Camilla.
“It is indeed a good move by the Queen of England to support the need to use wildlife products such as ivory,” she says.
“We see this as support for communities living with wildlife, such as those in overpopulated Botswana with elephants. We need trade in surplus ivory to survive.”
Not too late to send Rebecca an invitation to the coronation, Camilla!

Coincidentally, Emmanuel Macron will be at Westminster Abbey during the coronation, so he will not be able to witness the royal departure in the golden state carriage.
Among the ornate symbols are images celebrating Britain’s victory over France in the Seven Years’ War.
President Macron is besieged enough without having his nose smeared with imperial triumphalism.
Meanwhile, coverage of Macron’s battle with pension reforms on French TV’s main news program Quotidien was briefer than the details of the coronation quiche.
There were Gallic quibbles over the inclusion of fava beans. None of the 20 classic French quiche variations cited contain such invaders.
La vie n’est-elle pas grandiose!

Ardal O’Hanlon, aka Father Ted’s Dougal, reprising his role as the foolish priest in the National Theatre’s production of Dancing at Lughnasa, gives Meryl Streep the thumbs down for her starring role in the film version of the Brian Friel classic.
Meryl played the eldest sister of a dance-crazy group of girls stranded in remote County Donegal.
“I wasn’t really interested in the movie at all,” he says of preparing for the role of Fr Jack in Michael Gambon’s film. “I don’t really like the movie, but I like the play.”

Happy Valley creator Sally Wainwright reveals that Catherine Cawood’s quick jokes, played by Sarah Lancashire, were inspired by the 1970s series Rock Follies starring Julie Covington, Charlotte Cornwell and Rula Lenska as a struggling band.
She tells Radio Times: ‘It transported me, I was mesmerized. I had never seen such women on television before, they were quite ballsy.’
Actress Elle Fanning was told by writer Tony McNamara not to engage in any research on Catherine the Great before playing the Russian empress in the Hulu series.
“But I did do some,” she tells Harper’s Bazaar. “All I knew about Catherine was the rumor that she had sex with a horse — which actually feels like one of the earliest forms of slut shaming.”
Shouldn’t Elle, 25, have taken Tony’s advice and repeated the late Frankie Howerd’s refrain: ‘Come in, neigh and thrice neigh’?
