Cam Newton ran for more touchdowns than any other quarterback in NFL history, but he’s not considered the greatest dual threat to ever play the game.
Asked in the 4th and 1st show Asked if he’s the greatest dual-threat in history, Newton replied: “No. Lamar Jackson.”
Newton says what really sets Jackson apart is his speed, which allows him to make more big plays than Newton. Newton said his own specialty was power in short-yardage situations, but that Jackson and Michael Vick were bigger threats with their legs because they were faster.
“Lamar’s style is different than mine,” Newton said. “He makes big plays on any given play. He has speed that I never had. And he’s a legend. I played with more power. I can run, but I’m probably going to get caught. Vick and Lamar, they’re not going to get caught.”
Newton retired with 5,628 rushing yards, the second-most by a quarterback in NFL history behind Vick, as well as his record of 75 rushing touchdowns. Jackson currently has 5,258 rushing yards and 29 rushing touchdowns. Jackson has a good chance to surpass Vick’s quarterback record of 6,109 rushing yards this season, but he’s still a long way off Newton’s record for most rushing touchdowns.
