Activision will take a completely different approach to online progression for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0. The Battle Pass will remain, but instead of linear progression, the new system will give players a choice about which goodies they want to unlock first.
As usual, the battle pass brings numerous virtual rewards to players. That ranges from new maps, weapons, accessories and operators to decals and so much more. In the past, the Battle Pass formed a linear path from tier 1 to tier 100. Activision now leaves that shape behind.
The new Battle Pass is best visualized as a series of plans or maps with many different sectors, all connected in numerous ways. In principle, the progression becomes a mini-game in itself, as players can now map out their progression route themselves with earned Battle Tokens.
Each map contains about 20 sectors, each containing five unlockable items. With your Battle Tokens you can unlock different sectors on the map and pick up an item from each sector. Either open one sector, unlock all items there and then move on to the next sector.
The new system gives players more control over the items they want to unlock first. For example, the first Battle Pass contains the Victus XMR sniper rifle and the BAS-P submachine gun. If Zosar ‘Zeus’ Kalu returns. Will you choose to unlock the route to those weapons and the operator as quickly as possible? Or do you unlock each item step by step by sector? The choice is yours…
What do you think of the new system?
