A Californian man was arrested on the basis of multiple criminal charges after the police said he repeatedly raped a woman while holding her in an apartment for more than 24 hours.
Jesse Esquire III, 38, was detained on Wednesday evening after his alleged victim was able to escape from the apartment in Turlock, about 25 kilometers southeast of Modesto, and seek help.
According to the Turlock Police Department, the woman told detectives that Esquire was under the influence of drugs and had a gun when he imprisoned her 24 to 48 hours earlier.
The woman accused Esquire of sexually assaulting and physically abusing her multiple times during the trial.
Turlock Police spokesperson Sgt. Russ Holeman told it Modesto Bee the man and the woman knew each other, but the precise nature of their relationship is unclear.
At around 4.15 pm on Wednesday, while the suspect was being distracted, the woman fled the apartment where she was being held against her will in the 1500 block of North Palm Street in Turlock and called 911 from a neighbor's house.

After a short impasse, the 38-year-old agreed to surrender peacefully. He came out of the apartment at 6 p.m. and was arrested without incident.
