California residents called police after seeing a creepy figure dressed as Scream-killer Ghostface standing ominously at crosswalks in a quiet town.
The masked figure was seen Monday at the edge of a pedestrian crossing in Sonoma.
They then crossed the road before robbing the camera with the creepy mask first seen in 1996 when the original Scream movie premiered.
Unlike the fictional Ghostface of the movies, this one didn’t swing a knife or beat anyone to death.
On Monday, Sonoma police were inundated with calls from frightened residents reporting a suspicious individual — wearing a black hoodie and white mask — standing in the historic town square near First Street East and East Napa Street near Sonoma Plaza .
When officers went to investigate, they found that the person under the costume had nothing to fear, but was there to promote the upcoming horror movie
Scream VI’, which will hit theaters on March 10
But the locals were still scared and afraid of possible copycat crimes – and some called the police.
Only then did they learn the truth; the figure was part of a stunt devised to generate publicity for Scream 6, which hits theaters March 10.

In recent weeks, Ghostface has been spotted in several cities across the country, including New Orleans, St. Louis, and Sonoma, the stand-in for the film. fictional town of Woodsboro.
Ghostface, who seems to be getting a kick out of all the fuss, has taken to Twitter to tell those in panic, “I was just minding my own business.”
The cult film revolves around a series of brutal murders in the sleepy town of Woodsboro and a Ghostface killer who targets a group of teenage victims.
The slasher franchise directed by Wes Craven started in 1996 with Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard and Drew Barrymore.
Campbell dropped out after Scream 5. Arquette and Barrymore’s characters were slaughtered by Ghostface himself – with Lillard’s character dying after being exposed as Ghostface in the first film.
Cox remains one of the few original characters to survive and will star in Scream 6, which sees Ghostface’s latest incarnation terrorize New York City.
The first film in the franchise was shot at the Sonoma Community Center, just steps from Sonoma Plaza.
The community center served as a high school in the movie, and the original movie was filmed all over the Bay Area in 1996.
Santa Rosa, Tomales, and Healdsburg were other areas of California featured in the film.
