California Highway Patrol Officer shoots the wife of the CrossFit instructor

It is suspected that an off-duty officer of the California Highway Patrol fatally shot his wife before signing himself up after a nighttime discussion at a sports nutrition store.

Brad Wheat, 45, would have killed his wife, Mary, 42, and seriously injured the 44-year-old owner after he opened fire at the store in Amador County, California, on Monday night.

The Amador County Sheriff's Office said officers responded to a 911 call from the owner, who said he was locked in his tent with a woman and that her husband was banging on the door.

Officers arrived at the Get Ripped Nutrition store in Martell, Amador County, at 10.45 p.m., while shooting.

They found the CHP officer Wheat and his wife, the owner of a CrossFit gym two miles north of the scene, dead in the parking lot.

The witnesses told the police that Wheat had hit the shop door and, finally, fired a gun at the shop window to gain access.

Once inside, Mr. and Mrs. Wheat and the shop owner fought and more shots were fired.

Fight: the owner of the nutrition store called 911 and reported that he was locked up with a woman and that her husband was outside trying to gain access.

The Sheriff's Office said the couple's fight "spilled into the parking lot" where Trigo shot and killed his wife before lighting the gun.

The injured 44-year-old owner was shot in the shoulder and taken to the hospital by helicopter.

According to reports, Mr. and Mrs. Wheat, parents of two daughters and two sons, were well known and highly appreciated in the local community.
