Two toddlers were discovered all alone in a California motel after their parents had left them for several hours and were intoxicated, authorities say.
On Tuesday, the Riverside County Sheriff delegates were sent to a motel in Lake Elsinore after reports of a one-year-old child wearing a diaper walking across the parking lot.
According to an press releaseDelegates found the child alone and still in the parking lot when they arrived.
They then came across an open door and found a second child, 2 years old, all alone in the motel room.
The parents of the children were nowhere to be found.
Thirty minutes later, the father of the children, 50-year-old Joseph Salas, arrived in the motel room.
The authorities continued to transport Salas and the two children to the police station shortly before the mother, 32-year-old Tamara Ross, met them there.

After investigating the incident, the authorities discovered that the Temecula couple left the one-year-old and the two-year-old for three hours.

The two toddlers were admitted by Child Protective Services after their parents had left them alone, without supervision for three hours
Salas was arrested for child abuse and under the influence of marijuana in public.

Both suspects were transferred to the Cois Byrd detention center.
Child Protective Services has responded to the case and has taken the children into custody.
