Caitlin Clark's boyfriend Connor McCaffery joins Butler University coaching staff

Caitlin Clark’s boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, is taking a new coaching job at Butler University.

McCaffery, 26, landed the job after joining the Indiana Pacers last summer as an assistant coach for the team. The job was his first coaching gig after playing the sport at the University of Iowa.

The Iowa City native played for the Hawkeyes for six seasons, starting 88 of his 166 appearances. Throughout his college career, McCaffery averaged 4.5 points and 3.2 assists per game.

When Clark was selected by the Indiana Fever with the first overall pick in the WNBA draft earlier this year, McCaffery transferred to the Hoosier State and accepted the job with the Pacers.

His move to assistant coach for the Bulldogs was first reported by Akeem Glaspie of the Indianapolis Star. Scott Agness of Fieldhouse Files and David Eickholt of 247Sports also reported on his move from the Pacers to Butler.

McCaffery joins the Bulldogs’ squad while his younger brother, Patrick, will transfer from Iowa and play basketball at Butler. His younger brother, Jack, will also join the program next year.

The game takes place at home as Connor’s father, Fran, is the head men’s basketball coach at Iowa.

McCaffery is replacing former NBA No. 1 Greg Oden on Butler’s staff, according to Glaspie.

Oden was a high school basketball legend in Indiana and played in the NBA for seven years after a stop at Ohio State.

Butler head coach Thad Matta is entering his third season in charge of the program since being hired in 2022. The Bulldogs went 14-18 in his first year and 18-15 last season.
