Caitlin Clark’s boyfriend Connor McCaffery has officially landed a new job, but he won’t be leaving the Indiana Fever star behind.
After serving as basketball development coordinator for the NBA’s Indiana Pacers last season, McCaffery, a former college player at the University of Iowa, is joining Butler University as an assistant coach, the school confirmed Monday.
Luckily for the couple, McCaffery won’t be leaving Indianapolis, as Butler is also in the Indiana capital.
The school announced the hire with an Instagram post that Clark reposted on his story.
“Yayy! I’m so happy for you,” she wrote with a white heart emoji while tagging McCaffery.
Caitlin Clark and her basketball teammate Connor McCaffery have been dating since last year.
Clark encouraged McCaffery when he was named an assistant at Butler University.
McCaffery earned a reputation as a tough player in 166 games for Iowa in college.
Butler head coach Thad Matta Added in a statement‘After a career as a high-level player, Connor has had the opportunity to contribute and learn alongside one of the best teams in the NBA.’
“Those experiences will be very valuable to our staff. Obviously, he comes from a basketball family that I know very well and I’m excited about the impact he will have on our program, both in the short and long term.”
McCaffery’s move to Butler’s staff was first reported last week by Akeem Glaspie of the Indianapolis Star.
The 26-year-old, who appeared in 166 games for Iowa over six seasons, is the son of the program’s longtime men’s basketball coach Fran McCaffery.
Connor’s brother Patrick, who also spent five years playing at Iowa, will also spend his final college season at Butler.
Clark and McCaffery attended and played basketball at the University of Iowa.
Clark has been on an absolute tear lately for the Indiana Fever since the WNBA resumed.
Connor and Clark, who met while playing at Iowa, began dating in April of last year.
Clark has been on a tear of late in the WNBA, averaging 24.3 points and 8.9 assists in 13 games since the league returned from its Olympic break last month.
His Fever have also secured a place in the playoffs.
Butler, meanwhile, has not made the NCAA Tournament since 2018, but is well known to fans for its back-to-back national championship game appearances in 2010 and 2011.
