Caitlin Clark admitted how she felt about some of the WNBA coverage, with various narratives surrounding her rookie season.
One particular line that is brought up is whether or not she is being attacked by the league’s veterans despite the eyes she sets on women’s basketball.
The noise was amplified when Chicago’s Chennedy Carter appeared to shout ‘You b****’ before checking Clark’s body in their June 1 confrontation. When asked how much attention he pays to controversial assumptions, Clark talked about how he feels about how the media portrays the league.
“Sometimes it sucks how much, you know, the conversation happens outside of basketball,” Clark said.
“And not the product on the court, and the incredible players that are on the court and how good they are for their teams and how great this season has been for women’s basketball, from college basketball to now the WNBA.”
Caitlin Clark said WNBA coverage ‘stinks’ in light of June 1 Chennedy Carter feud
The number one overall pick also revealed that while she stays away from the noise created by social media, she can’t help but see how the stories revolving around her and her teammates are presented.
“I’m not on social media, so I don’t see much,” Clark added. But you would be surprised to know that I still have the TV on in my house and watch sports. You are still aware of it. You still see it. But other than that, my goal is basketball.”
To add to the amplified physicality, Clark’s college rival and Chicago rookie Angel Reese has been actively attacking the No. 1 overall pick.
In addition to taking aim at Clark on social media after a win over the New York Liberty in May, Reese said he agreed to be the “bad guy” after cheering on Carter for throwing the shoulder at the former Iowa star.
Clark was brutally subjected to a body check by Carter during their June 1 confrontation in Indiana.
Clark hasn’t had the warmest welcome as some claim players are attacking her.
Clark and the Fever are 2-9 heading into their game against the Mystics on Friday night.
However, Clark had the last laugh in her first WNBA clash when she scored 11 points, including two late 3-pointers to lead Indiana to a 71-70 victory.
After capturing his second win of the season, Clark would struggle in a blowout loss to the New York Liberty. The rookie scored just three points as Breanna Stewart and company defeated the Fever 104-68.
Clark and the Fever will make the second stop of their three-game road stretch on Friday when they take on the Mystics in Washington DC.
