Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston, the Indiana Fever’s dynamic duo, have had each other’s backs all season long. That was evident Thursday night, when Clark tried to draw attention to her teammate at a postgame press conference after the Fever’s 89-77 loss to the Seattle Storm.

Clark and Boston walked up to the podium together, but the focus was on the rookie at first. After the fifth consecutive question directed at Clark, she tried to redirect reporters to Boston, who sat calmly and stared at the stat sheet in her hands.

“Ask Aliyah a question,” Clark said.

“No, I’m fine,” Boston said, sounding resigned, but Clark insisted.

The next reporter then directed the question, about the practice, to Boston, followed by a few more.

Thursday marked the second and final time this season that Indiana would travel to Seattle to play; The moment, while awkward, was a bit inevitable, as Seattle reporters only had the opportunity to get quotes from Clark twice this season. Still, the awkward situation finally passed.

Clark and Boston, the last two No. 1 overall picks, have become a strong duo on the Fever and have praised each other throughout the season. While the rookie has received more attention, Clark has often tried to draw attention to Boston, the reigning Rookie of the Year and a key piece for the Fever on both ends of the court.

Following Thursday’s loss and a close defeat to the Chicago Sky last weekend, Indiana has a 7-12 record and sits ninth in the WNBA standings. The Fever will play Sunday against the Phoenix Mercury (9-8) and hope to turn around their losing streak.
